One Of The Two TowersPosted by P J W Miller (Chase Terrace, United Kingdom) on 23 April 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio. Perrotts Folly, which is one of the oldest buildings in Birmingham and said to be the original inspiration for Tolkien's The Two Towers, is being brought back to life as a major tourist attraction and educational and training facility by Trident Care and Support in partnership with the Perrotts Folly trustees. The Follys most famous fan was undoubtedly JRR Tolkien who lived in its shadow in nearby Stirling Road during his childhood. Every day on his way to school he would have walked past both the Folly and The Waterworks tower which together are said to be the inspiration for the two towers after which the second book of the Lord of The Rings trilogy is named. Tolkiens own sketches of Orthanc are based on the Folly’s windows, and the Waterworks tower resembles his illustrations of Minas Tirith . There is no doubt that the brooding presence of these towers played on young Tolkiens imagination. Me and my camera(s) will travel both locally and as far as is physically allowable within the constraints of this our local celestial body and provide images from a purely subjective point of view for your evaluation and commentation .
