Back To Sarehole MillPosted by P J W Miller (Chase Terrace, United Kingdom) on 8 May 2009 in Abstract & Conceptual and Portfolio. I am trying to not post images as a block from one place and I am therefore trying to generate interest by flitting back and fourth through my photo adventures. This returns us back to Sarehole Mill (Tolkiens inspiration for a mill in The Hobbit). This is a working water mill, the water falls from the stream onto the mill wheel paddles. The wheel turns quite slowly but the long exposure makes it look like it is spinning at a very fast pace. I like the colour version but I prefer this one. Me and my camera(s) will travel both locally and as far as is physically allowable within the constraints of this our local celestial body and provide images from a purely subjective point of view for your evaluation and commentation . Locally based near Lichfield If you have the time I would appreciate constructive comments please and in return for your honesty my comments on your work will also be constructive. A brief message to all the brothers and sisters of AM3 and other photographic blog sites. It is a great feeling to get so many warm and constructive comments from all of you all over the world , it is good to be able to communicate in a friendly manner with no hint of racism, sexism or other ism's. It is good to be able to see what lies in your part of the world and to be able to give constructive comments on your work.

khadi from New Delhi, IndiaGreat black and white and great capture. I think the long exposure really works in this image. 8 May 2009 5:36am Scott Schilling from San Martin, United StatesGreat shot and I like the B&W in this one! What does the water wheel then do - does it generate electricity? 8 May 2009 5:40am Mike from Lichfield, United KingdomCool photo. Great angle you've taken it taken it from. The slow shutter speed causing the wheel to blur gives the shot interesting motion. The rest of the image is slightly blurred but with a hand held shot at such a slow shutter speed you did well to hold it as still as you did. The black and white works well too. 8 May 2009 5:43am Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainSo great impression of movement in this very good framing and b/w! 8 May 2009 6:39am Sarito from Basingstoke, United KingdomWonderful b/w image.. like the motion and as always the processing! 8 May 2009 7:29am xavier cardell from menorca-barcelona, SpainSplendit motion. No needs for colors here! 8 May 2009 7:39am k@ from Paris, FranceOhhhh (that's what came out of my mouth when I saw the pic !!) 8 May 2009 8:15am Hidalgo from Herunen, FinlandNice job and great use of Your brains when taking photo this way. Cool. 8 May 2009 11:08am Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, CanadaAnother well seen shot. The motion in the wheel is splendid. It does look like it is racing. These old water mills are so quite and green. Great processing. Enjoy the weekend. 8 May 2009 11:22am Craig@Random Ramblings from Herts, United KingdomAs Mike says, you done well to hand hold this. There's such low light in these old mills it makes shooting difficult, I know as I've tried and only ever posted a couple of shots here's one. So what I'm trying to say is well done! Don't know what the colour version is like but mono works well. 8 May 2009 11:30am shoti from Everywhere in the, Philippinesgreat shot, employing slow shutter was a good decision, gives this photo a sense of motion :) 8 May 2009 12:07pm -C16H25NØ2- from Persia, IranC16H25NO2 is a chemical formula ;) 8 May 2009 12:46pm hugo poon from hong kong, Hong KongWow, so dynamic... this "object" has come to life through your wonderful photography!!! 8 May 2009 1:39pm Don from spokane, United StatesI like this black and white version very much. Thanks for the explanation - I would never have figured out what was going so fast! :-) Fine black and white work. 8 May 2009 3:13pm Ajay from Pune, IndiaAmazing how you've put the speed in this shot by long exposure. An excellent composition in black and white. 8 May 2009 5:00pm observing from North West, United KingdomIt really does look as though it is whizzing around, the motion is absolutely necessary in a shot like this. Have a Good Weekend Pete ! 8 May 2009 7:06pm Nicolas from Paris, FranceVery nice blur motion, I can almost hear the noise of the wheels. 8 May 2009 7:29pm Vinman from Essex, United KingdomIt looks like highly polished wood thanks to the long exposure. The sort that you can't help but want to touch to see how smooth it is. The unusual framing suits it well. 8 May 2009 10:35pm jeff (aka dogilicious) from Millerstown, PA, United StatesNice slow shutter work. This is really a cool image. 8 May 2009 11:15pm Cricket from Alabama, United StatesNice capture of motion in this image. Great capture Peter. 9 May 2009 2:29am One from Açores, PortugalExceptional !
