Towers #2

Posted by P J W Miller (Chase Terrace, United Kingdom) on 11 May 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio.

A slightly different view to yesterdays post, this one opens up to give you a more overall view. The question still remains, are cooling towers sexy?

Me and my camera(s) will travel both locally and as far as is physically allowable within the constraints of this our local celestial body and provide images from a purely subjective point of view for your evaluation and commentation .

Locally based near Lichfield

If you have the time I would appreciate constructive comments please and in return for your honesty my comments on your work will also be constructive.

A brief message to all the brothers and sisters of AM3 and other photographic blog sites. It is a great feeling to get so many warm and constructive comments from all of you all over the world , it is good to be able to communicate in a friendly manner with no hint of racism, sexism or other ism's. It is good to be able to see what lies in your part of the world and to be able to give constructive comments on your work.

Mmmm I suppose if you like the shape then they could be sexy!@$@$^#@$@!
I think I grew up seeing them too much (the North of England). I find them fascinating more than sexy!!

An image of modern architecture very successful.

Sexy, no. When I see cooling towers, I see ignorance and greed. However, I can still appreciate your shots! Well done!!!

I somehow prefer yesterday's post. this one has many distractions in the frame which, for me, is unnecessary :)

Great shot and amazing colors on the contemporary buildings! In this case it looks like they are at least trying very hard to be sexy!!

Fantastic processing Pete, and there is something about the shape of cooling towers that I like.

I see that the big blue buildings are spreading across the region, we will soon be over run with Mr P's Points and Plaza's, that's why we are getting so many alien visitors here, they see all the blue buildings lit up at night and home in lol :D

Great processing, I like the opposition between the glass tower and the concrete towers.

Amazing how this works in an almost 3D computer generated kind of way, well crafted shot.

Your shot is very nicely composed Pete, but as for cooling towers being sexy.... the mind boggles. Moving on to the Tower building, this is weird, its dimensions look wrong, the curving pointing rods look hideous, and I'd like to know what the 'thing' in front of the doors represents ?

jeff (aka dogilicious) from Millerstown, PA, United States

I agree with observing. The towers are way sexier than the building - although I do like the colors of the building. I live less than an hour from the cooling tower at Three Mile Island that was shut down after its core melted. You can now stand in the base of it and look up through the hole. I had the opportunity several years ago. More ominous than sexy.

Bookfool from Mississippi, United States

I find nature a whole lot more sexy than cooling towers. Jeff's comment about Three Mile Island gave me the shivers. That was really scary.

Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United States

Well done. On your question regarding sexiness - ah, no.

Another beautiful landscape, but the cooling towers do not remind me anything of sexy ! :D
